Solanke rescues Tottenham in dramatic Man Utd draw

Dominic Solanke scored a stoppage-time equaliser to earn 10-man Tottenham Hotspur a point against Manchester United in a feisty Premier League encounter at Old Trafford.

United looked set to pile more misery on Spurs following the visitors’ poor start to the season when Bryan Mbeumo broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute.

Tottenham’s troubles deepened five minutes later when Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off for headbutting Luke Shaw after the United defender had shoved him following a reckless challenge by the Uruguay midfielder.

However, Solanke, captaining Tottenham for the first time, rose to head Sandro Tonali’s cross into the net in the second minute of stoppage time, lifting Spurs off the bottom of the table.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side remain winless and in the relegation zone, above Fulham and Coventry City, with just three points from their opening six games.

Manchester United have also endured a shaky start to the campaign, recording just one victory. Their sluggish first-half display was greeted with boos from the home supporters on Saturday.

Although United improved after the break, jeers rang out around Old Trafford again at full-time.

The result marked the second consecutive league game in which United had dropped points against a side reduced to 10 men, following their 1-0 derby defeat to Manchester City last month.
