South-East not excluded, Southern traditional rulers united — Ooni of Ife

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, on Tuesday dismissed insinuations of division among southern traditional rulers, insisting that the South-East remains an integral part of their collective engagements.
Speaking shortly after the National Traditional and Religious Leaders Summit on Health 2026, held at the Banquet Hall of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, the monarch said the gathering—bringing together faith leaders and traditional rulers from across the country—was unprecedented and aimed at strengthening collaboration with political leaders to improve citizens’ welfare.
He described traditional rulers as custodians of their people who must now work more closely with government institutions to address critical issues, particularly in the health sector.
Addressing concerns about possible cracks within the Southern Traditional Rulers Council, the Ooni stressed that membership of the body is voluntary but maintained that it remains a formidable platform for unity and coordinated action.
He rejected any suggestion that the South-East was being sidelined, noting that prominent traditional rulers from the region are active participants in the council’s activities. According to him, the southern monarchs stand united and are committed to working together for national development.
The Ooni also cautioned against misinformation and rumours, urging Nigerians to focus on credible information rather than divisive narratives circulated on social media.
He reaffirmed the commitment of southern traditional rulers to support federal health initiatives and collaborate with the President and the Ministry of Health to advance national progress.
