SUBEB lauds impact of the Jolly Phonics programme in Ondo

By Boye Oyeyemi –

The Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has commended the impact of the Jolly Phonics programme on literacy development in public primary schools across the state.

The Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Rt. Hon. Victor Olabimtan, gave the commendation after monitoring the implementation of the programme in selected schools.

Olabimtan said the initiative had strengthened pupils’ foundational literacy, with notable improvements in reading readiness, spelling and pronunciation.

According to him, many pupils can now identify letter sounds correctly, blend words and spell more confidently than before the introduction of the programme.

He explained that the interactive teaching approach had made lessons more engaging, leading to increased attentiveness, participation and comprehension among learners.

The SUBEB chairman reaffirmed the board’s commitment to sustaining the programme through continuous teacher training, the provision of instructional materials and effective monitoring.

He also praised teachers and development partners for their support, while commending Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for prioritising early literacy and quality education in the state.
