Sudan coach explains 4-0 rout of Nigeria at CHAN 2024

Sudan’s coach, Kwesi Appiah, has explained how his team managed to overcome Nigeria in Tuesday’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 Group D match.
The Ghanaian-born tactician attributed his side’s victory to tactical stability, which he said enabled them to record a stunning 4-0 defeat of the Nigerian home-based national team.
In his post-match remarks, Appiah admitted that Nigeria had the upper hand for the first 20 minutes, but his players turned things around by soaking up the pressure when under attack.
“After all the pressure from Nigeria, our first 20 minutes were not the best, but we just tried to stay in control and be stable.
“We did that very well in the first half, and when we got back in the second half, we were able to take over the game,” said the 65-year-old coach.
The heavy defeat ended Nigeria’s hopes of qualifying for the knockout stage at CHAN 2024, as the team has yet to earn a point, having earlier lost 0-1 to Senegal in their opening fixture last Tuesday.
The Eagles’ B-squad remain bottom of the table with no points, while Sudan lead on goal difference with four points. Senegal are second after playing a 1-1 draw earlier on Tuesday with Nigeria’s final group opponent, Congo, who sit third with two points.
