Nigeria’s Super Eagles return to the pitch this evening to face Algeria as they continue their campaign in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ahead of the quarter-final clash at the Stade de Marrakech, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has dismissed any notion of revenge, insisting his focus is solely on preparation and performance. The Nigerians, with an impressive run so far in the tournament, aim to maintain their momentum as they compete for a place in the semi-finals.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Chelle emphasised that past emotions will not influence his approach, stressing that discipline, unity, and tactical clarity will be decisive.

“It is very important for me to stay focused on what happens on the pitch,” Chelle said. “Energy is important, but the mentality of the group is even more crucial. We must remain united.”

Chelle, who praised the professionalism of the Algerian team and their backroom staff, rejected any connection between the upcoming clash and Nigeria’s past disappointments.

“I respect this Algerian side a lot and the way their staff work,” he added. “I am not thinking about 2019. My only objective is to compete, perform well, and qualify.”
