Super Eagles’ coach to be unveiled in January

The wait for the emergence of a substantive coach for Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles will come to an end soon.
If information gathered are anything to go by, the country’s football governing body, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) willl announce a new Head Coach for the team in January, before the commencement of FIFA World Cup qualifier in March.
A top official of the federation revealed on Thursday that efforts have reached an advanced stage regarding the hiring of a quality foreign coach who can qualify the Super Eagles for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking, he said, “yes, we are working on getting a quality foreign coach to take over from Austin Eguavoen. We are being careful because we must select the best among those who indicated interest currently undergoing interview. By January, we must have finalized with whom we want and present same before the Board for ratification. The coach will resume immediately with at least one month before the commencement of FIFA World Cup qualifier.” The source concluded.
Austin Eguavoen as Interim Coach secured 2025 African Nations Cup ticket for the Super Eagles. But he is expected to return back to his position as Technical Director, Nigeria Football Federation.
Super Eagles are on the verge of missing out of the FIFA World Cup back to back. With three points in four matches, the three times African champions are placed fifth on the log while Rwanda, South Africa and Benin Republic are joint-leaders (first, second and third respectively) with seven points apiece. Lesotho are fourth with five points.
