Suspected bomb explosion rocks islamic school in Abuja, killing two

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed a tragic incident involving a suspected bomb explosion at Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Byazhin, Abuja.

The explosion occurred on January 6, 2025, around 11:00 AM, claiming two lives and leaving two others severely injured.

According to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident was reported by the Sarki of Kuchibuyi, prompting the swift deployment of police operatives, including the Command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and the Area Commander of Kubwa. The area was immediately cordoned off to protect residents and facilitate investigations.

Preliminary investigations revealed that three men from Katsina had visited the school’s proprietor, Mallam Adamu Ashimu, and were allegedly in possession of an improvised explosive device (IED).

While tampering with the device on the school veranda, it exploded, killing two of the men. A third man and a female trader sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the hospital, where they remain under police guard.

The FCT Bomb Squad has confirmed the presence of an IED, with remnants of the explosive recovered from the scene. Mallam Adamu Ashimu has been taken into custody for questioning as investigations continue.

In a statement, the Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Olatunji Disu, urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities or items resembling explosive devices to the authorities.
