Suspected cultist shot dead in Ondo

A 40-year-old man suspected to be a cultist has been shot dead in Owo, the headquarters of Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The deceased was said to have been shot by two masked men on Sunday, January 19, 2025.
The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, CSP Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to journalists.
She said the deceased was a cultist who had been on the wanted list by the police.
According to Odunlami, the suspect participated in the EndSARS protest and was said to have attacked a police station, stealing an AK-47 gun and a bulletproof vest belonging to the police.
She added that the deceased was also said to have been involved in the killing of a resident of the state.
The police spokesperson said the remains of the suspect have been deposited in the morgue in a hospital in the town, and efforts are being made to apprehend the killers.
About two weeks ago, the state government imposed a dusk-till-dawn curfew on Owo town as a result of a bloody clash between two cult groups that claimed four lives.
