Tanker carrying 33,000 litres of petrol catches fire in Ibadan

By Adejayan Gbenga –
A tanker transporting 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) caught fire on Thursday evening following an accident at Celica Junction, along the new Ife Expressway in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The incident, which occurred at about 6:27 p.m., was reportedly caused by brake failure, leading the tanker to lose control. The vehicle crashed into a Toyota Prado SUV and another car, overturned, and subsequently went up in flames.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, said firefighters from both the state and federal fire services responded promptly to the emergency.
He noted that the team successfully extinguished the fire using chemical foam compounds and prevented it from spreading to a nearby NNPC filling station and other properties.
“No lives were lost, but the fire damaged the tanker, a car, and the Prado SUV, which was pushed into a nearby gutter due to the impact,” Akinwande stated.
