Thirteen candidates jostle for Unilorin VC post

Thirteen candidates have applied to succeed the incumbent Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Sulyman Age.
The 13 applicants include, Profs. Wahab Egbewole (SAN), Sulaiman Ambali, Mikhail Buhari, Olugbenga Mokuolu, AbdulBaqi AbdulRaheem, Mohammod Ibrahim, Babatunde Solagberu, Hassan Saliu, AbdulRaheem Mahmoud, Olanrewaju Adedoyin, Bashir Raji, Ibraheem Katibi and Issac Adimula.
One of the candidates, Prof. Hassan Saliu in a telephone interview with WesternPost on Monday, described himself as the most qualified and better equipped to become the next Vice Chancellor of the institution.
Saliu started his career in 1990 at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna as an assistant lecturer and moved to the University of Ilorin in 1998 as senior lecturer.
Saliu, who is the current National President of the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA), disclosed that if chosen as the 11th vice chancellor, and having worked with about six VCs, he is in the best position to make significant impact in the life of the university.
“I aspire to be University of Ilorin vice chancellor because I have a strong value to add to the system. I wouldn’t want to talk now because we are at the critical level. I believe I can do better in all aspects of the university life.
“I have been around for over twenty something years now and I strongly believe that having worked with some Vice Chancellors before. I’m now better equipped to make significant impact in the life of the university. I have worked with five or six vice chancellors. I have understudied them and now I want to be at the level so I can add my own value,” he said.
