Three suspected cultists arrested in Kwara poly student’s alleged murder

The Kwara State Police Command, through its Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), has uncovered the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of a Kwara State Polytechnic student, leading to the arrest of three suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity over their alleged involvement in the victim’s abduction and murder.

The development was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Ilorin by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi.

According to the statement, operatives of the VCRU on Monday carried out coordinated tactical operations at identified cult hideouts within Ilorin metropolis, leading to the arrest of Adeoye Babatunde Alimi, 23, alias “Solar”; Bernard Kayode, 25, alias “KK”; and Owoyemi Bashiru, 27, alias “GDP.”

The statement said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are members of a violent cult group allegedly responsible for the abduction of Sodiq Durodola Olaniyi, 29, an indigene of Oyo State, who had been missing since June 4, 2026.

During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to their respective roles in the crime and disclosed that the victim was killed by members of the cult group after his abduction.

The investigation further revealed that the criminal gang comprises 12 members, with nine other suspects still at large.

The statement added that tactical operations have been intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects, dismantle the criminal network and recover the victim’s body.

It further stated that the three suspects remain in police custody and are assisting investigators with information on other violent crimes allegedly committed by the group within Ilorin metropolis.
