Tinubu appoints Folashade Adekaiyaoja as DSS Deputy Director General

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Folashade Arinola Adekaiyaoja as the Deputy Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The decision, described as unprecedented, seeks to enhance the agency’s structure for improved efficiency, aligning with the DSS’s original organizational framework.

This marks the first time any Nigerian president has approved such an appointment, with the DSS hierarchy now set to include three Deputy Directors General, as stipulated in its structure.

Sources reveal that the appointment was recommended by the Director General of the DSS through the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, before receiving presidential ratification.

“This appointment is in line with extant regulations and is a groundbreaking move in the history of the Secret Service,” a source disclosed.

Adekaiyaoja, a native of Kogi State, is celebrated within the DSS for her qualifications and competence. The announcement has reportedly been met with widespread support from both serving and retired officers, who view the decision as a boost for career progression within the service.

In line with his commitment to improving the security of lives and property in Nigeria, President Tinubu had earlier tasked security agency heads with proposing strategies to enhance service delivery. It was based on these directives that the DSS Director General recommended Adekaiyaoja’s appointment, which was subsequently approved.

President Tinubu had previously emphasized the importance of reforming Nigeria’s security apparatus during the investiture ceremony at the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS), highlighting his administration’s dedication to national security.
