Tinubu appoints new PTDF Executive Secretary, renews TCN boss’ tenure

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Shu’aibu Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), while also renewing the appointment of Engineer Sule Abdulaziz as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was announced on Thursday in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Professor Aliyu replaces Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who stepped down from the position to pursue his governorship ambition ahead of the 2027 elections in Adamawa State.

According to the Presidency, the appointment of Aliyu reflects Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening critical institutions in Nigeria’s petroleum sector and boosting human capital development in the energy industry.

The President expressed confidence that the new PTDF boss would use his academic and administrative experience to reposition the agency to achieve greater impact in research development, innovation and strategic manpower support for the oil and gas sector.

Meanwhile, Tinubu also approved a second and final term for Abdulaziz as head of TCN following what the government described as a thorough review of his performance.

The statement noted that under Abdulaziz’s leadership, the company recorded improvements in electricity grid stability, expansion of transmission capacity and modernisation of critical infrastructure within Nigeria’s power transmission network.

Abdulaziz, who has more than 30 years of experience in the power sector, was also credited with strengthening regional electricity cooperation through his role in the West African Power Pool.
