President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mrs. Omotenioye Majekodunmi as the new Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC).

The announcement was made in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

Majekodunmi, a seasoned environmental lawyer and climate finance expert, succeeds Dr. Nkiruka Madueke, who was appointed as the Council’s pioneer head in June 2024.

The President thanked Dr. Madueke for her service and credited her with laying a strong foundation for the Council’s work.

With over 17 years of experience in climate governance, carbon markets, and renewable energy, Majekodunmi has worked with both global and national institutions. Prior to her appointment, she served as the NCCC’s Financial Adviser and played a key role in formulating Nigeria’s climate policy and global engagement strategy.

The Presidency further mentioned that her appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to addressing climate change not only as an environmental priority but also as a catalyst for sustainable economic growth, national security, and inclusive development.
