Tinubu approves new leadership for federal universities of education in Kano, Zaria

President Bola Tinubu has approved new leadership appointments for two recently established Federal Universities of Education in Kano and Zaria.

In a statement on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the President announced the appointment of Engineer Abdurrazaq Abubakar Nakore as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano. Nakore, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, previously served as Executive Secretary of the Rural Electricity Board in Jigawa State.

Prof. Abdullahi Tukur Kodage was also named Vice-Chancellor of the Kano-based institution.

At the Federal University of Education, Zaria, Kaduna State, President Tinubu appointed Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure as Vice-Chancellor. Bunkure, an academic with expertise in science education, currently serves as Vice-Chancellor of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education in Kano.

Both universities were upgraded from Colleges of Education between 2022 and 2023. In line with the governing laws, Nakore will serve a four-year term as Pro-Chancellor, while the newly appointed Vice-Chancellors will hold office for five years.
