Tinubu assures northern Christians of fairness, pledges to unite Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring fairness among all religions in Nigeria, declaring that his mission is to unite the nation and foster lasting peace.

Speaking on Saturday during a meeting with Christian leaders at the headquarters of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Jos, Plateau State, the President said his government remains focused on promoting harmony, tackling insecurity, and revamping the economy for the benefit of all Nigerians.

“I have a mission to unite this country, ensure its prosperity, and we are making progress,” President Tinubu stated.

He assured Christian communities in the North of his administration’s sincerity and commitment to equitable governance, emphasizing that religion should never be a source of division among Nigerians.

“In our family, we have a strong Muslim background, and I married a Christian — a pastor for that matter — and I have never forced her to change her religion,” he said, urging religious leaders to support ongoing efforts toward national unity.

The President, who was in Jos to attend the funeral of Mrs. Lydia Yilwatda, mother of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, described the late matriarch as “a devoted mother and humanitarian.”

Tinubu also reaffirmed his government’s determination to end terrorism, banditry, and farmer-herder conflicts across the country.

“We are defeating bandits, and we will defeat them. We will deal with them and combat the farmers-herders clashes,” he said.
