Loneliness at Brighton saddened me — Super Falcons goalkeeper Nnadozie

Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has opened up about the emotional challenges she has faced since joining English Women’s Super League side Brighton & Hove Albion, revealing that loneliness has been one of her biggest struggles.

The 23-year-old shared her experience in Nothing Off the Table, a film by Nike and VERSUS, noting that her transition has not been as smooth as many might assume.

“It has not really been easy because people just see you come out on the field to play; they don’t know the struggles behind,” she said.

Nnadozie admitted that adapting to life away from her family and familiar surroundings has been particularly difficult. “Since I moved to Brighton, every day I cry because I feel lonely. I miss my family, my teammates, and my coaches. They always try to check up on me to make sure I’m okay,” she added.

Despite the emotional challenges, the goalkeeper — ranked the fourth-best in the world — praised her new club for helping her settle in.

“I think the most important thing is having people who really care about you. That has helped me a lot, and going to pre-season with the team also helped me. The unity and everything I saw in the team were really good,” she said.

Nnadozie joined Brighton this season from Paris FC, where she had established herself as one of the most outstanding goalkeepers in women’s football.
