Tinubu backs Nigeria’s bid for FIFA council re-election

By Kunle Sanni

President Bola Tinubu has thrown his weight behind Nigeria’s campaign for re-election into the FIFA Council.

The FIFA Council, serving as the main decision-making body between FIFA Congress meetings, consists of 37 members elected for renewable four-year terms.

In March 2021, Amaju Pinnick, the two-term President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), was elected to the FIFA Council, becoming the third Nigerian to hold this prestigious position, following the late Oyo Orok Oyo and Dr. Amos Adamu.

As Pinnick seeks re-election, President Tinubu’s endorsement highlights Nigeria’s determination to maintain its influential presence within the global football governing body.
