Tinubu celebrates Florence Ita Giwa at 80, Anyim Pius Anyim at 65

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former lawmaker Florence Ita Giwa on her 80th birthday and ex-Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim as he marked his 65th birthday.
In separate goodwill messages, the President paid tribute to Ita Giwa’s longstanding role in Nigeria’s political development, describing her as a courageous and resilient figure whose contributions have left a lasting imprint on the country’s democratic journey.
Ita Giwa represented Cross River South Senatorial District in the Senate between 1999 and 2003. She earlier served in the House of Representatives from 1992 to 1993 and was chairman of the National Republican Convention (NRC) in Delta State during the Third Republic.
Tinubu noted that the former senator, widely known as “Mama Bakassi” for her advocacy on behalf of the Bakassi people, broke barriers for women in politics and carved a distinct path in public service. He commended her work in lawmaking and policy advocacy, saying her efforts contributed meaningfully to Nigeria’s political evolution.
The President joined her family, friends and associates in celebrating the milestone and wished her continued good health and fulfilment in the years ahead.
Tinubu also lauded Anyim, describing him as a prominent and steady voice in Nigeria’s political space since 1998. He praised Anyim’s tenure as President of the Senate, highlighting his defence of the National Assembly’s integrity, even in challenging circumstances.
The President further acknowledged Anyim’s service as Secretary to the Government of the Federation, noting his role in advancing reforms, fostering unity and supporting national development.
He wished the former Senate President good health and renewed strength, underscoring the importance of committed leadership in promoting peace, progress and development in the country.
