Tinubu commissions Bwari water network, says project will boost public health

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday said the newly commissioned Bwari Township Water Supply Network will improve public health, reduce residents’ dependence on private boreholes and create new economic opportunities for communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Represented by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, at the inauguration of the project in Bwari, the President said the 198-kilometre water pipeline, constructed by China Geo-engineering Construction (CGC) Limited and connected to treated water from the Lower Usuma Dam, would provide safe drinking water to Bwari, Ushafa and surrounding communities.
He described access to potable water as a fundamental right and said the project reflects his administration’s commitment to extending infrastructure beyond Abuja city centre.
“The project will improve public health by reducing waterborne diseases, eliminate the costly reliance on private boreholes, and create new economic opportunities,” Tinubu said.
The President said the project forms part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which he described as a commitment to delivering infrastructure that directly improves the lives of Nigerians.
“The Renewed Hope Agenda is not a slogan. It is a contract. It is a deliberate, calculated, and unyielding commitment to governance that works for the people,” he said.
Tinubu said his administration was determined to ensure that development reached satellite towns that had long lacked basic infrastructure.
“For too long, the narrative of Abuja has been a tale of two cities, a glittering centre surrounded by underserved communities. We said no. That era is gone. Nigeria belongs to all of us, and development must be decentralised,” he added.
