Tinubu: Electoral amendments are about process, not politics

President Bola Tinubu has described the signing of the Electoral Act 2026 (Amendment) into law as a set of reforms aimed at strengthening electoral processes, rather than advancing political interests.
“These amendments are not about politics. They are about process. They are about closing gaps, strengthening procedures, and providing greater clarity to those who conduct and participate in our elections,” Tinubu said.
He made the remarks on Wednesday during the signing of the Electoral Act 2026 (Amendment) into law.
The President emphasised that building public confidence in elections is central to the reforms. “When citizens walk into a polling unit, they must do so with confidence. When results are declared, they must be trusted. That confidence is built deliberately, and not by chance,” he added.
Tinubu also commended the National Assembly for its cooperation in finalizing the amendments and reiterated his commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy so that the people’s will is expressed clearly, peacefully, and credibly.
