Tinubu government using Buhari’s death for PR — ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of using the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari to gain political advantage and polish its public image.

In a statement signed by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described the Federal Executive Council’s (FEC) tribute to Buhari and the presence of his son, Yusuf, at the meeting as “a calculated PR stunt by an unpopular government.”

“This is not a demonstration of genuine respect,” the statement read. “It was a carefully stage-managed performance aimed at distracting Nigerians from the administration’s deepening failures and rewriting history while the nation mourns.”

The ADC condemned what it described as the Tinubu government’s hypocrisy, noting that the same administration had consistently blamed Buhari’s policies for the country’s economic woes, only to now seek sympathy and political mileage from his passing.

“You cannot spend months discrediting a man’s legacy only to turn around and perform grief for the cameras,” the statement added.

The party also criticised the use of Yusuf Buhari at the FEC meeting, calling it “a troubling and cynical act,” and alleging that he was pulled into political theatre just days after his father’s burial.

“What kind of government uses the private pain of a bereaved family to varnish its own public image?” the ADC queried.

It also recalled its earlier warning to the Buhari family, alleging that the events at the FEC signaled the start of a broader plan to exploit public sentiment, especially in northern Nigeria and among Buhari loyalists.
