President Bola Tinubu has paid a heartfelt tribute to Chief Bisi Akande, an elder statesman, seasoned administrator, and the first National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on the occasion of his 86th birthday.

In a statement on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Tinubu described Chief Akande as a progressive leader and committed Awoist who has made remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s democracy, nation-building, and development.

He lauded Akande’s legacy of selfless service, which has defined his political career.

“Baba Akande has always exemplified selflessness and dedication since his entry into politics,” Tinubu said.

Akande’s illustrious career includes serving as Secretary to the Government of Old Oyo State, Deputy Governor, and Governor of Osun State from 1999 to 2003. He also served as the Interim National Chairman of the APC and is currently the Chairman of the Governing Board of the University of Ibadan.

Highlighting Akande’s instrumental role in the APC, Tinubu praised his pioneering efforts that were crucial to the party’s victories in the 2015 elections and subsequent electoral successes.

The President emphasized Chief Akande’s unwavering partnership and commitment to advancing progressive governance in Nigeria.

He also recalled their shared efforts during the pro-democracy struggles under the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), commending Akande’s leadership, integrity, and wisdom during that pivotal period.

President Tinubu noted that Akande’s 86th birthday was an opportunity to once again express gratitude for his steadfast support and wise counsel throughout his political journey, culminating in his rise to the presidency.

The President wished Chief Akande continued grace and strength as he remains a source of inspiration to the nation and younger generations.
