President Bola Tinubu has praised former Jigawa State Governor and elder statesman, Alhaji Sule Lamido, during the launch of his autobiography Being True to Myself, describing it as a valuable contribution to Nigeria’s political history and a symbol of democratic engagement across party lines.
Represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, at the event held at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja, Tinubu lauded Lamido’s legacy as a principled politician whose life mirrors Nigeria’s democratic journey.
“This is not just a book launch,” Idris said. “It is a celebration of a life steeped in conviction, consistency, and commitment to democratic values. Though an opposition figure and frequent critic of this administration, Alhaji Sule Lamido remains a key voice in our political evolution.”
Tinubu used the occasion to reaffirm his belief in political inclusion, emphasizing that opposition should not be viewed as enmity but as a healthy contest of ideas within a vibrant democracy. “Every Nigerian, regardless of political affiliation, has a voice and a seat at the table of national discourse,” he declared.
The Minister described the 10-year effort behind the book as a remarkable act of political documentation and encouraged other leaders to preserve their experiences for future generations.
“The title is fitting for a man known for speaking his mind and standing firm in his beliefs,” Idris added, recommending the book to students, researchers, journalists, and politicians.
Drawing parallels between Tinubu and Lamido, Idris noted that both men are committed to the principles of truth, justice, and national progress, despite their differing political paths.
The Minister also highlighted the administration’s achievements as Nigeria marks 26 years of uninterrupted democracy. While acknowledging the hardships of recent economic reforms, he stressed that they are beginning to produce results.
