Tinubu heads to Tanzania for Africa energy summit

President Bola Tinubu on Sunday departed Abuja for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to participate in the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit, scheduled for January 27–28, 2025.
WESTERN POST reported that the high-profile summit, co-hosted by Tanzania, the African Development Bank (ADB), and the World Bank, seeks to accelerate efforts under “Mission 300,” an ambitious initiative to provide electricity access to 300 million Africans by 2030.
Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President, (Information and Strategy), said the two-day event is expected to bring together African leaders, private sector stakeholders, development partners, and civil society organizations to address the continent’s energy challenges. Discussions will focus on expanding access to electricity in underserved areas, scaling up renewable energy solutions, improving energy efficiency, and attracting private sector investment to bridge the energy gap.
President Tinubu’s delegation includes Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, Special Adviser to the President on Energy Olu Verheijen, and other senior government officials.
The summit is expected to culminate in the adoption of the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, which will outline a unified strategy for achieving the goals of Mission 300. President Tinubu is scheduled to deliver a national statement reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to universal energy access and its leadership role in advancing energy solutions across Africa.
He is expected to return to Abuja upon the conclusion of the summit.
