Tinubu mourns journalist Evelyn Osagie, ex-Plateau governor Mohammed Mana

President Bola Tinubu has mourned the passing of two notable Nigerians — Miss Evelyn Osagie, Assistant Editor of The Nation newspaper, and Col. Mohammed Mana (rtd), former military administrator of Plateau State and ex-senator.

Osagie, 49, died last Sunday after a brief illness. The President described her death as “sad and heartbreaking,” remembering her as one of The Nation’s most talented and hardworking correspondents.

She earned recognition for her reporting on arts, culture, and women’s issues, and was also celebrated as a poet with strong ties to Nigeria’s literary and cultural community. Tinubu prayed for her peaceful repose and comfort for her family, colleagues, and the management of The Nation.

In a separate message, the President also paid tribute to Col. Mana, who died on Saturday in Abuja. Mana had represented Adamawa North in the Senate from 2007 to 2011 after serving as Plateau’s military administrator.

Describing him as a “distinguished patriot and officer gentleman,” Tinubu said his counsel and leadership would be greatly missed. Until his passing, Mana chaired the APC Reconciliation Committee in Adamawa State.

The President extended condolences to Mana’s family, the government and people of Adamawa, and members of the All Progressives Congress, praising his lifelong commitment to public service and nation-building.

Both condolence statements were issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
