Tinubu orders immediate rescue of abducted Niger worshippers

President Bola Tinubu has ordered security agencies to launch an immediate operation to rescue worshippers and other residents abducted by terrorists in parts of Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

The directive followed an attack on four communities in the area during Friday prayers, when gunmen reportedly abducted an unspecified number of residents.

Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying Tinubu condemned the attack and described the perpetrators as “enemies of peace and enemies of humanity.”

The president also expressed condolences to families of those killed in the attack, while assuring affected communities that the Federal Government would provide the necessary support for rescue, relief and security operations.

Tinubu directed the service chiefs to provide him with regular updates on the rescue mission until all the abducted persons are accounted for.

“You are not alone. The entire nation shares your anguish. We will not rest until your sons, daughters, mothers and fathers are brought back safely to you,” the president said.

He vowed that the attacks would not intimidate the country, stressing that his administration would continue to protect communities and safeguard the lives of Nigerians.

“My prayers are with the people of Niger State at this difficult time. The Federal Government stands firmly with the State Government and will provide all necessary support to aid recovery, relief, and security reinforcement,” he added.
