Tinubu praises Finland’s role in addressing Simon Ekpa’s actions

…reaffirms commitment to national unity

President Bola Tinubu has praised the Finnish government for its swift intervention in the case of Simon Ekpa, whose actions had threatened Nigeria’s peaceful coexistence.

Speaking in Abuja on Friday while receiving the Letters of Credence from Finland’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Ms. Sanna Selin, President Tinubu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s stance against divisiveness.

“We will not tolerate actions or statements that jeopardize our national unity,” the President stated. “Nigeria is indivisible. We have endured turbulent times, and we will not promote terrorism or division.”

The President expressed gratitude to the Finnish authorities for their role in safeguarding Nigeria’s integrity and emphasized the importance of stability and cohesion in advancing the nation’s development.

President Tinubu also highlighted the Finnish Ambassador’s priorities in information technology, agriculture, and education, noting their relevance to Nigeria’s development agenda.

The Finnish Ambassador commended President Tinubu’s reforms, describing them as essential steps toward long-term economic prosperity. She added that Finland is eager to collaborate on energy opportunities and peace mediation efforts.

“Simon Ekpa’s actions had hindered our bilateral relations, but with the National Security Adviser providing critical evidence, we are now making progress. Finland remains committed to strengthening ties with Nigeria,” Ms. Selin said.

According to the statement, President Tinubu also received the Letters of Credence from Mr. Gautier Mignot, Ambassador of the European Union (EU), and Mr. Hocine Mezoued, Ambassador of Algeria.

During his meeting with the EU envoy, President Tinubu acknowledged the EU as one of Nigeria’s largest trading partners. He urged the bloc to support Nigeria in its digital transformation and to enhance trade relations.

Mr. Mignot praised Nigeria’s vast potential, particularly its youthful population, and expressed optimism about leveraging development cooperation and technology to unlock further growth.

In discussions with Algeria’s Ambassador, President Tinubu called for strengthened collaboration on the Trans-Saharan African Gas Pipeline project.

“Africa must lift itself up through partnerships and mutual support. Together, we can achieve shared prosperity,” the President said.

Ambassador Mezoued reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to supporting Nigeria on regional development projects and in multilateral engagements for the betterment of the African continent.
