Tinubu to Nigerian youths abroad: Stay, build, prosper at home

President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerian youths relocating abroad for better opportunities to see the country as their home and work toward its development.
Speaking on Monday at the National Youth Conference inauguration at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Tinubu assured that his administration is committed to their future.
“When you listen to professionals saying ‘we JAPA’ [relocate abroad], it is because if you grow prosperous back home and empower people, they will stay,” he said. “This is your home to develop, build, and be prosperous. The government of the day is all about you.”
He defended his administration’s removal of the oil subsidy, acknowledging the resulting economic difficulties but insisting it was necessary for the country’s long-term stability.
“When we removed oil subsidy, we were protecting a future for generations yet unborn,” Tinubu said, adding that the reforms are creating a more sustainable economy.
Tinubu emphasized youth engagement in governance and nation-building, encouraging them to explore opportunities in technology, investment, and economic recovery.
“The economy is turning the corner. Prices are falling, confidence in our economy is improving, and investors are looking in. You have the opportunity,” he told youth representatives.
He urged young Nigerians to hold the government accountable and contribute their ideas. “Look at me in the face and tell me whatever you think is wrong. We will try to implement all of it as long as it is for the prosperity of this country,” he assured.
