Tinubu urges governors to prioritise results over criticism

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerian governors to prioritise development and measurable results over engaging with critics, urging them to stay focused on delivering for the people.

Speaking during a two-day working visit to Katsina State, Tinubu said good governance should be rooted in the visible well-being of citizens, not political distractions.

“Let the people be at the heart of your programmes. Your hard work and concrete achievements will answer any criticism,” he said.

The President made the remarks while commissioning the Eastern Bypass, a 24-kilometre road linking Dutsin-Ma Road through Kano and Daura Roads to Yandaki in Kaita Local Government Area. The project was completed within 18 months.

Tinubu also inaugurated the Katsina Agricultural Mechanisation Centre, part of a broader push to enhance food security and farming efficiency nationwide. He praised Katsina’s investment in mechanisation as a model for other states to follow.

On security, Tinubu commended Governor Dikko Umar Radda and the people of Katsina for their resilience amid terrorism and banditry, pledging continued federal support. “You will not walk alone. The federal government will be with you,” he assured.

The President reaffirmed his administration’s focus on addressing hunger and poverty, calling them the biggest threats to national stability. He cited ongoing reforms in agriculture, water management, and financing through a revitalised Bank of Agriculture.

He lauded Governor Radda’s progress in agriculture, healthcare, education, and infrastructure, describing it as “remarkable.” He urged governors across the country to emulate Katsina’s approach to economic diversification.

Governor Radda reported key achievements, including the acquisition of 400 tractors through a federal N25 billion fund, the distribution of nearly 850,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser, and the construction or rehabilitation of 160 kilometres of roads, along with improvements in power, water, and healthcare services.
