Tinubu urges Governors to prioritize poor, vulnerable citizens

President Bola Tinubu has called on governors and political leaders to focus on policies and programs that directly benefit the poor and vulnerable in society.

Speaking at a Ramadan fast-breaking event at the State House on Monday night, the President emphasized the need for selfless leadership, urging political officeholders to dedicate resources to improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians.

“I thank you all for responding to this invitation. You honored it out of respect, not because you don’t have enough to eat or share,” Tinubu told the gathering, which included governors, Federal Executive Council (FEC) members, service chiefs, and key officials from ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).

President Tinubu acknowledged the ongoing economic challenges but stressed that reforms implemented by his administration were beginning to yield positive results. He credited these achievements to the collective efforts of federal and state leaders.

“I recall in our first FEC meeting, I said we were going to work hard to fetch water from a dry well. We are still working hard to ensure that there is water to drink and that we spend money wisely, not burden the people,” he said.

Encouraging political leaders to prioritize the nation’s long-term progress, Tinubu likened them to navigators steering the country toward prosperity.

“Look at yourselves as navigators who will bring the country to the promised land. Standing here as President is a great honor, and you can’t trade it. Continue doing what you are doing—and do more for the people,” he urged.

Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, commended the President for taking bold steps to reform the economy.
