Tragedy on Third Mainland Bridge as auto crash leaves woman dead

A tragic road accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos has claimed the life of a woman.
The incident was confirmed by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Wednesday.
According to LASTMA, the fatal crash occurred at the Ilaje inward Iyana Oworo axis of the bridge and involved two Toyota Sienna vehicles with registration numbers LSR 809 GV and LSR 695 HM.
Preliminary findings indicate that the accident was caused by reckless driving, particularly excessive speeding, which resulted in a head-on collision between the two vehicles.
Emergency responders from LASTMA arrived promptly after receiving a distress call, securing the scene and managing traffic flow to prevent further incidents.
Officers from the Oworonsoki Police Division also responded swiftly to document the crash and commence investigations.
The victim, identified as a mother, died at the scene, while her 30-year-old daughter survived the crash. Authorities confirmed that the deceased’s body has been evacuated.
In the aftermath of the incident, one of the drivers fled the scene, while the other was apprehended and handed over to the police for further questioning.
Reacting to the development, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, urged motorists to exercise caution, stressing the importance of adhering to speed limits and traffic regulations.
