Troops repel terrorist attack in Borno, neutralize 12 insurgents
Troops of the 101 Special Forces Battalion under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist attack in the Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, in the early hours of November 25, 2024.
The assault, involving terrorists mounted on gun trucks and motorcycles, included an attempted breach of the camp using a Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) from the Gudumbali axis.
The Nigerian Army confirmed that the troops, supported by the Air Component and the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Command, responded with overwhelming firepower, forcing the attackers into disarray and retreat. Twelve terrorists were neutralized during the confrontation, while several others fled with gunshot wounds.
A significant cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the insurgents, including:
Five AK-47 rifles
One RPG bomb and RPG tube
Two Anti-Aircraft (AA) guns
One QJC gun
One NSV heavy machine gun
40 motorcycles
152 rounds of Shilka ammunition.
In addition, four of the seven VBIEDs deployed by the attackers were destroyed.
Regrettably, three soldiers lost their lives in the line of duty. Efforts to secure the area are ongoing, with troops conducting house-to-house searches and clearing operations to eliminate any remaining threats.
The Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen OO Oluyede, commended the troops for their bravery and resilience. He urged them to sustain their momentum in conducting clearance operations and fighting patrols to maintain security in the region.
