Tuggar resigns as foreign affairs minister

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has officially resigned from his position ahead of the March 31 deadline for political office holders, as stipulated by the Electoral Act.

In his resignation letter, signed on Monday by his Special Assistant on Media, Alkasim Abdulkadir, Tuggar expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve and contribute to the implementation of the administration’s 4D foreign policy strategy, which has guided Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements.

He also thanked the management and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as members of the diplomatic community, for their support during his tenure.

According to the statement, the minister submitted his resignation to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, where Abubakar Kana, Permanent Secretary of General Services, received the letter on behalf of the office.

Tuggar, a former ambassador to Germany (2017–2023) and member of the House of Representatives (2007–2011) representing Bauchi, is expected join the governorship race in the 2027 elections.
