Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has provided multi-million-naira financial assistance to traders affected by a recent fire outbreak at Sabo, Ore, in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The intervention is aimed at helping the affected traders recover from the financial losses caused by the fire and restart their businesses after losing goods and other valuable assets.
The relief package was presented to the beneficiaries on behalf of the minister by a former Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Yetunde Adeyanju.
While sympathising with the victims, Adeyanju said the assistance was intended to provide immediate support as they begin the process of rebuilding their businesses and restoring their livelihoods.
She also urged the traders to cooperate with fire service authorities and comply with relevant safety measures to minimise the risk of future fire incidents.
Reacting, the Chief Imam of Odigbo Local Government, Ismaila Olurimisi, described the intervention as a demonstration of Tunji-Ojo’s concern for residents facing hardship, while Felix Olatunde said the financial assistance would help the victims begin the recovery process.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Chief Executive Officer of Blessed Timi Ventures, Timi Blessed, thanked the minister for what she described as a timely intervention, noting that many traders were still struggling with the losses suffered in the fire.
The programme was attended by former Ondo State House of Assembly Deputy Speaker Mayowa Akinfolarin, Afolabi Iwalewa, Robert Akinkunmi, Felix Esan, members of the AMG Women Support Group and other political and community leaders, who joined the beneficiaries in commending the minister for the gesture.
