Two men, Felix Emmanuel and Friday Austine, have been arraigned before an Akure Magistrate’s Court over their alleged involvement in an unlawful firearms transaction.
The defendants were docked on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and illegal dealing in firearms.
The prosecutor, Akeredolu Olusegun, told the court that the alleged offences were committed on June 18 and 19, 2026, at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, within the court’s jurisdiction.
Olusegun alleged that Emmanuel unlawfully sold a single-barrel cartridge gun to one Sammy, while Austine allegedly facilitated the transaction by acting as an intermediary between the seller and the buyer.
According to the prosecution, the alleged offences contravened Section 516 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006, and Section 28 of the Firearms Act, Cap. F28, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges, prompting their counsel, Femi Adetoye, to apply for bail on liberal terms, assuring the court that they would not abscond or interfere with the trial.
In his ruling, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni granted each defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Aug. 12, 2026, for hearing.
