Two girls escape suspected kidnappers’ trap in Akure

Two young women have reportedly escaped an attempted abduction by suspected ritualists operating with taxis and tricycles in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The victims, identified as Grace Nashery and another lady, boarded a taxi from Danjuma Junction along Ondo Road to the Adebowale area when the incident happened.

The taxi, which already had three men and a driver, allegedly diverted from its route and took the girls to Owena, on the outskirts of Akure, where they were abandoned.

Grace said they did not know their location until a good Samaritan found them and contacted their parents, who rescued them later that night.

Her father, Pastor Nashery Doki, said he believed the driver was part of a ritualist network in the state capital. He thanked God for their safety and urged the police to investigate the syndicate.

He also warned residents to be cautious when boarding commercial vehicles, as similar incidents have been reported across Akure.

An Akure resident, who spoke anonymously, claimed his pastor’s daughter narrowly escaped a similar attempt recently, calling on the police to tackle the rising cases of abduction in the city.
