UNIABUJA Governing Council appoints Maikudi as 7th substantive VC
The Governing Council of the University of Abuja under the chairmanship of Air Vice-Marshal Saddiq Ismaila Kaita (Rtd), has approved the appointment of Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi as the 7th Substantive vice-chancellor of the institution.
In a statement, the university’s spokesperson, Habib Yakoob said the appointment was announced during the 77th Extraordinary Meeting of the Council on Tuesday.
He said the appointment takes effect from January 1, 2025, and it is for a non-renewable tenure of five years.
Professor Maikudi reportedly emerged as the best among 10 shortlisted candidates who were interviewed by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board of the University, in line with the extant regulations governing the process.
Until her confirmation, Professor Aisha Maikudi was the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
It will be recalled that a group of 67 professors had stormed the Federal Ministry of Education on Monday to submit a protest letter to the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, on some allegations they raised against the process for the selection of a new Vice Chancellor in the university.
