UPDATE: Aiyedatiwa urges unity as Babatunde emerges Ondo APC chairman

Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa on Tuesday called for unity and discipline within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as Hon. Kolawole Babatunde emerged as the new chairman of the party in Ondo State.

Babatunde, a former member of the House of Representatives, was elected at the party’s state congress held at the International Centre for Culture and Events in Akure. He emerged alongside 35 other members of the State Working Committee through consensus and affirmation in what party leaders described as a peaceful and well-organised exercise.

Speaking at the congress, Aiyedatiwa described the event as more than a routine political gathering, noting that it reaffirmed the party’s commitment to unity, discipline and internal democracy.

“Today’s congress is more than a routine political exercise. It is a reaffirmation of our shared commitment to party supremacy, unity, inclusiveness and discipline. I thank everyone who has made sacrifices to allow harmony and consensus to take place. This is the Ondo State APC spirit,” the governor said.

He urged members to place collective interest above personal ambition and congratulated the newly elected executives at the state, local government and ward levels, describing their emergence as a call to service.

The governor also appealed to party faithful to support the re-election of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing his administration’s reform agenda and efforts at national development.

In his acceptance speech, Babatunde pledged transparent, disciplined and inclusive leadership, describing his emergence as a collective victory and promising to strengthen unity within the party.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Ondo APC State Congress Committee, Comrade Ogonna Obiekwe, commended aspirants for their conduct and urged members to remain united, stressing that political competition should strengthen rather than divide the party.
