UPDATE on Immigration boss’ tenure: CG Nandap appointed for 18 months — Official document

By Innocent Raphael

Facts have emerged that the Comptroller-General of Immigration Service, Kemi Nana Nandap, was given an express appointment for an 18-month period by President Bola Tinubu.

This is contrary to the impression created by WESTERN POST’s earlier story that her tenure may have expired at the expiration of her 35 years in service last Thursday.

By civil service rules, an officer within the service mandatorily retires from service on reaching 60 years of age or 35 years in service.

By the rule, Nandap ought to have retired last Thursday, October 9, 2024.

But President Tinubu had appointed her as NIS CS for an 18-month tenure effective March 1, 2024.

This means her tenure will run till September next year.

Her letter of appointment, which WESTERN POST glimpsed exclusively, was dated February 26, 2024.

Nandap’s tenure as head of Nigeria’s Immigrations Service, thus far, has been marked by efforts to improve revenue collection, enhance internal security, and streamline immigration processes.
