The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a 60-year-old woman, Mrs Olufunke Amoo, at Ore, in the Odigbo Local Government Area of the state, saying a suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Western Post had earlier reported that the suspect, identified as Samuel Akoade, was arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene of the incident.
The command, in a statement on Monday, said the deceased was found dead in a pool of blood at her residence after sustaining deep machete cuts.
“Upon receiving the report, operatives of the Ore Division promptly mobilised to the scene, secured the area and commenced preliminary investigation,” the police said in a statement on Monday.
A machete suspected to have been used in the attack was recovered at the scene, while photographs and other relevant details were documented by the investigating officers.
The police said the remains of Amoo had been deposited at a mortuary, while Akoade remained in custody as the investigation continued.
“The command remains committed to protecting lives and property and urges members of the public to provide timely and useful information on suspicious activities within their communities,” the statement added.
The police report has eased panic among residents, as they await further developments in the case.
