Uphold tradition above politics, Obasanjo to Ladoja on coronation as Olubadan

Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has congratulated Oba Abdul-Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja on his ascension as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, urging him to clearly distinguish between traditional leadership and political involvement.

In a statement released by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, on Wednesday, Obasanjo offered his royal blessings in Yoruba, saying, “Ade a pe lori, bata a pe lese,” a traditional prayer for long life and successful reign.

He noted that although the coronation ceremony scheduled for Friday is largely ceremonial, the weight of the throne demands humility, wisdom, and inclusive leadership.

Obasanjo, currently attending the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, emphasized that traditional rulership should not conflict with political governance, advising the new monarch to embrace patience, tolerance, and diverse counsel.

“The position of Olubadan is both exalted and demanding. It calls for divine wisdom and guidance. I wish Oba Ladoja a reign filled with peace and progress,” Obasanjo stated.

The Oyo State Government has confirmed that the official coronation of the former governor will take place on Friday at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan.

In preparation, the state’s coronation planning committee announced that key routes leading to the venue will be closed from 7:00 a.m. to ensure security and smooth logistics.
