US military trainers in Nigeria will support our armed forces—DHQ

About 100 United States military personnel and associated equipment have arrived at Bauchi Airfield to support the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) announced on Monday.
The deployment follows a formal request by the Federal Government of Nigeria and comes as part of ongoing collaboration between Nigerian and US military officials.
According to the DHQ, the US personnel are technical specialists who will serve strictly in an advisory and training role, with no combat duties.
According to a statement by Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, the training and support program is aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s capacity to counter terrorist threats and protect vulnerable communities.
He said the Nigerian troops will work alongside US advisers in joint training exercises and intelligence-focused initiatives to enhance their ability to identify and neutralize extremist groups.
“All activities will be conducted under the authority and control of the Nigerian Government,” the DHQ said, emphasizing that the collaboration is planned, deliberate, and fully coordinated with the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The DHQ also assured the public that the Armed Forces remain committed to defeating terrorist organizations and protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty, while promising continued transparency regarding military cooperation efforts.
