Lagos Assembly okays waste, transport concessions, clears 2,000 CNG buses deal
In a bid to strengthen waste management and transportation in the state, members of the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday unanimously approved the ratification of two major concession agreements during plenary.
The first agreement is between the Lagos State Government and Zoomlion Nigeria Limited, alongside the issuance of an Irrevocable Standing Payment Order (ISPO) under the Lagos Waste Improvement Programme – Solid Waste Solution.
The second concession is between the Lagos State Government and TSL Metroline Limited, including the issuance of a no-objection letter for an Irrevocable Direct Debit Order in favour of the company for the procurement and operation of 2,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses.
The approvals followed the presentation of a report by the Chairman of the four-man Ad Hoc Committee, Hon. (Engr.) Gbolahan Yishawu( Eti-Osa 2), who said the committee critically examined the proposed agreements in line with its oversight and ratification mandate.
According to him, the waste management concession is designed to improve waste processing efficiency, recycling, and disposal services, while promoting environmental sustainability, enhancing public health outcomes, and creating jobs in line with the state’s environmental policy objectives and global best practices.
He added that the transport concession aims to boost the efficiency and effectiveness of the public transportation system on routes designated by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).
Commending the committee for its thorough work, Hon. Bonu Solomon (Badagry 1) suggested that the proposed CNG buses should be equitably distributed across all local government areas of the state.
The plenary, presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, unanimously adopted the committee’s recommendations as the official resolutions of the House.
