By Adeola Ogunrinde –
Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, and his counterpart from Sokoto State, Ahmad Aliyu, will be among the 5,000 eminent Nigerians expected at the 2025 National Women Conference (NWC) in Lagos State. The annual event, organized by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), serves as a platform for women across all walks of life to brainstorm and chart new paths for development.
Speaking during a pre-event press briefing at Alausa, Ikeja, the Lagos State First Lady and Chairman of COWLSO, Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, said the 25th National Women’s Conference will mark a milestone in the life of the Committee as it celebrates visionary impact and service to humanity. Governor Uzodinma will be the Special Guest of Honour at the opening ceremony, while Governor Aliyu will attend the closing session.
This year’s conference, with the theme “25 Years of Visionary Legacy: Inspiring the Next Generation,” will hold from Monday, 28th to Wednesday, 30th October 2025, at the Convention Centre, Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. As part of activities marking the event, COWLSO will on Saturday, 11th October, hold its annual Pre-Conference Awareness Walk in Ikorodu with the theme “Step Up, Show Up, Never Give Up.”

Mrs. Sanwo-Olu said COWLSO has, for 25 years, remained a formidable platform committed to the advancement and empowerment of women in Lagos and across Nigeria. “These participants are women from diverse backgrounds, including professionals, policymakers, entrepreneurs, civil society advocates, and homemakers, united by one vision: to build a stronger, more inclusive society,” she said.
She added that this year’s theme challenges participants to look back with gratitude and look forward with hope as the torch is passed to the next generation of women leaders and change-makers. About 3,000 physical participants and 2,000 virtual attendees from within and outside Lagos are expected, representing diverse sectors including business, policymaking, civil society, and homemaking.
The First Lady explained that the presence of the governors and other dignitaries underscores COWLSO’s growing national recognition as a catalyst for women’s development. She said several pre-conference activities, including free health screenings, environmental sanitation, empowerment initiatives, and visits to orphanages, have been lined up to reflect the group’s compassion and commitment to social impact.
In line with tradition, the conference will also feature COWLSO Physical and Virtual Markets, where participants can purchase quality goods at subsidized rates from accredited vendors. The vibrant Gala Night will hold on the second day, featuring entertainment, cultural displays, and raffle draws, while the event will be streamed live across Lagos State Government’s social media platforms to ensure inclusivity.
Chairperson of the 2025 Conference, Dr. (Mrs.) Olayemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said past editions have continued to receive positive feedback for their organization and impact. She expressed confidence that the Silver Jubilee edition will surpass expectations and deliver another memorable experience for all participants.
