Victor hits brace in Galatasaray’s Champions League win

Victor Osimhen scored twice and assisted another goal as Galatasaray recorded their second successive Champions League victory with a comfortable win over Bodo/Glimt.

The Nigerian forward produced a superb display, netting two first-half goals and setting up Yunus Akgun after the break to secure back-to-back wins in the competition for the first time since December 2012.

Substitute Andreas Helmersen grabbed a late consolation for the Norwegian champions, who are still without a win in the group stage.

Having narrowly defeated Liverpool in their previous outing, the result lifted Okan Buruk’s Galatasaray side up to 11th in the overall standings from 21st before Wednesday evening’s later fixtures.

The Turkish champions took an early lead when Osimhen swept a low effort into the bottom corner from Mario Lemina’s precise pass.

The 26-year-old doubled his tally just after the half-hour mark — his fifth goal of the campaign — capitalising on a poor back pass from Fredrik Bjorkan and rounding goalkeeper Nikita Haikin to steer the ball into an empty net.

Osimhen could have claimed the match ball but missed two fine chances to complete a hat-trick, having scored three for Nigeria against Benin on October 14.

He later helped create Galatasaray’s third when his challenge on Haitam Aleesami led to Akgun’s strike at the second attempt. Despite late efforts from Jens Hauge and Sondre Fet, Bodo/Glimt managed only Helmersen’s close-range header from Bjorkan’s cross, leaving them on two points after three games and still in the elimination zone.
