WAEC temporarily suspends 2025 WASSCE results checker over technical glitches

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a temporary suspension of access to the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates, following the discovery of technical issues during an internal review.

In a press release signed by Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs, on Thursday, WAEC expressed regret over the disruption and assured the public that the matter is being addressed with urgency and transparency. The Council attributed the glitches to bugs uncovered during the post-result release procedure, particularly linked to a new innovation in examination security known as paper serialization.

The paper serialization system — deployed in core subjects such as Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics — was introduced to curb malpractice and is modeled after practices used by other national examination bodies. However, the implementation revealed unforeseen technical issues during the results release phase.

“As a responsive body that is sensitive to fairness and professionalism, the Council has decided to urgently review and correct the technical glitches that led to the situation,” the statement read. Consequently, access to the WASSCE (SC) 2025 results has been temporarily denied on the result checker portal.

WAEC has apologized to all affected candidates and the general public, thanking them for their patience and understanding. It assured stakeholders that the issue would be resolved within 24 hours. Candidates who have previously checked their results are advised to re-check after that period.

“The Council remains committed to upholding excellence, fairness, and transparency in all our assessment processes,” the statement added.

WAEC also reiterated its dedication to maintaining the integrity of its examinations and to delivering quality service to Nigerian students.
