Why I didn’t support Peter Obi in 2023 – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has explained his reasons for not supporting Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, during the 2023 general election.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, Wike described Obi as a “social media candidate” and said he did not believe the former Anambra State governor had a realistic chance of winning the presidential race.

“No, he has no chance to win the election,” Wike said. “I don’t go to where you see people like this kind of social media candidate. I don’t do social media candidate.”

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, added that his political decisions are guided by careful analysis of candidates’ chances of success, rather than their popularity online.

“I said I see that as a politician, and I analyse the candidate who is likely to win,” he said. “In politics, it’s not always about choosing the best candidate. So many factors come into play in Nigerian politics.”
