Why NCAA suspended Dana Air

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the federal body responsible for regulating aviation safety, overseeing airport standards, and enforcing aviation laws and policies in Nigeria has declared that it suspended Dana Air operations to conduct safety and financial audit of the airline.
According to a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Management, Dr Emmanuel Meribale on behalf of the Minister, Festus Keyamo, the aviation authorities said recent incidents involving Dana Airline have raised significant questions about both the company’s financial stability and safety.
The letter conveying the suspension of its flight operations across Nigeria stressed that, given recent occurrences, it has become imperative to conduct a thorough audit of every aspect of safety measures, maintenance practices, and financial health of the airline to guarantee complete adherence to Nigeria’s aviation laws.
Recall that a Dana Air aircraft travelling from Abuja to Lagos, skidded off the Lagos Airport runaway on Tuesday. There was no casualty during the incident.
The development has highlighted the gravity of the situation, and the necessity for prompt and decisive action to be taken to protect the interests of all stakeholders in the aviation sector, the government added.
Recently, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority suspended the permit of three private jet operators for engaging in commercial flights.
