A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State, loyal to Nyesom Wike, announced the emergence of a new state executive on Tuesday.

The faction elected its officials during a congress held in Akure, where party members gathered to choose leaders for the next four years.

At the exercise, Olaniyi Ogungbuji was returned as chairman, alongside other key officers to run the affairs of the group.

Those elected include Akinwamide Adedeji as deputy chairman and Yagba Timilehin as secretary, among others.

The congress was attended by party stakeholders and monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, led by Adenike Tadese, as well as operatives of the Department of State Services.

While urging members to close ranks and prioritise the party’s collective interest, the Chairman of the congress committee, Adebiyi Abiodun-Philips, noted that reconciliation efforts at the national level had helped to stabilise the party, insisting that divisions had been resolved.

In his acceptance speech, Ogungbuji, the new chairman, promised to reposition the party ahead of future elections, stressing the importance of unity and grassroots mobilisation.
